Welcome to the Ecomuseum Bergslagen!
Explore this fascinating, open-air museum and its 60-odd heritage sites in an area steeped in history and stretching from Strömsholms Royal Manor House and lake Mälaren in the south to Grangärde Finnmark in the north.

The Ecomuseum is a network that has stretched through Dalarna and Västmanland for 20 years. It consists of seven municipalities working together with tourism based on the rich history of iron making. Included in the network are two museums: The Dalarna and Västmanland county museums.

A visit to the Ecomuseum Bergslagen
is a journey through time where you can
witness the beginnings of a modern
industrial society. At the various sites you
will find charcoal-burning stacks, mines,
smelting houses, pit and blast furnaces, hammer
mills and forges, workers’ cottages, manor houses,
homestead villages, power stations, railways and
canals with locks. Local societies with active volunteers
help bring to life many of the Ecomuseum’s environments.
